FEES
By Steven Gomberg (2019)
Our philosophy at the office of Criminal Attorney Steven Gomberg is that the fairest fees are those that are matched to your individual situation and case.
Generally I charge a Retainer at the beginning. It is usually $1500.00
In felony cases, almost all arrests are reviewed by the State Attorney, a process called INTAKE, where the actual charges you will be facing, if any, are decided. This process usually takes 4-6 weeks and is very important to the setting of a final fee or, more importantly, whether any additional fees are required after the $1500 retainer. By waiting you do not get charged a Felony fee for a case that only gets filed as a Misdemeanor. You also do not get charged for a full defense when the case is simply not filed at all.
I usually set a final fee only after I have seen the initial report (probable Cause Affidavit) and learned more from you about your expectations, prior record, if any, and potential defenses. This fee will give you credit for the Retainer you have already paid and usually can be paid in installments and I guarantee it will be a more equitable amount and almost always less than would be required if I were to simply make a guess without knowing more.
